You might be wondering what's going on in the church garden! We're extending the patio out by just a couple of slabs and removing the flower beds that are rather hazardous (well, I've tripped over the old tree stumps anyway). We're also putting in land drains. Whilst it's a shame to do it over the summer holidays, we need to do it when the school clubs aren't using the space and when the ground isn't too wet. 'Why?!' I hear you cry! Our main objective is to improve our outside space. It's well used especially by the children but it gets muddy and has standing water for several months of the year. Also it's hard to access the patio in a wheel chair and that will improve. So in essence, we plan to make the garden more useable and more accessible for more people, for more of the year.
How are we paying? We're not especially flush with cash especially with the cost of living rise. But money is set aside in a buildings fund that is separate to our operating costs, and we are using some of that. We're planning to apply for a grant from TVBC, too.
