This week it's Mothering Sunday - traditionally, that moment in Lent where all returned to their 'mother' church (the one where you were baptised). Of course, now we use it to celebrate mothers as we'll do on Sunday. It's also a moment to remember God as mother as well as father. In Matthew 23:37-39, Jesus laments over Jerusalem. In part He says: “How often have I desired to gather your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing.” (Mat. 23:37b). It's a beautiful image of God's compassionate, protective love for us - one to hold on year round, not just this week!
