School term has ended and August is near, a month associated with holidays and rest even if we’re not as impacted by schools these days! There’s even a bit of sunshine in the forecast... I love the seasonal rhythms - whether it’s the resolutions of January, the new growth of spring, or the excitement of Christmas and the build up. Having a quieter month in August is part of that - even if we’re continuing at work as normal, the traffic is less and so are the number of meetings! It’s a great opportunity for recreation - or, as above, re-creation. A time to refresh, to allow God to re-create us, ready for a new start in September. I’d love to encourage us to relax in August, to make space for that refreshing. Our Sunday services will focus on the theme of recreation and the services themselves will be a little more relaxed. Maybe it’s an opportunity to read a book, to take some quiet time with God, to rejoice in our status as his much-loved children - to remember who we are before him. Do take a look at our service themes on p5 - maybe use them to direct your own reflection; how we might take sabbath rest, drink of living water, follow Jesus’ instruction not to worry, practice gratitude and take time away with God. How might that look for you? I pray that you would find rest and re-creation this summer time (and that we might see some sun!)
