I’ve watched a couple of TV programmes in horror recently: ‘The Sixth Commandment’ about the trainee vicar who murdered parishioners in Oxfordshire and ‘The Reckoning’, about Jimmy Savile. Not exactly comfortable viewing - but a masterclass in how power can be abused in plain sight, with terrible consequences. And it shows why we all need to be aware of the need to raise any concern at all, with the confident expectation of being heard and taken seriously. As an LEP we are aligned with the Church of England’s safeguarding processes, simply because it’s to them our vicar and trainees are answerable - all our denominations have good systems and support in place. And I’m so grateful for Linda King and her work as Parish Safeguarding officer here at St Francis. She’ll be sharing more about her work this Sunday 19th Nov, designated Safeguarding Sunday.
