Schools are back and for younger families the holiday season is over - and now the sun’s come out! Whilst we’d have liked it a few weeks ago, it’s lovely to enjoy this tropical weather now (even if it is maybe a bit too hot). This year has seen many climate records broken - July 2023 was the hottest month on Earth ‘ever recorded in human history (unric.org).’ Human activity is implicated and it reminds us how vital it is to prioritise care for creation. We’ve not cracked it at St Francis - but we’re working on it; looking at solar panels and making other modifications to improve our energy efficiency. Maybe it’s also good to remember God’s promise to Noah. Humans cause so much damage, and part of our work as Christians is to work on protecting the planet. And, God is Lord over all the earth; our hope is in the promise of the renewed earth when Jesus returns, but in the meantime God promised Noah that ‘As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease.(Gen 8:22)’. Quite a few of us are off on holiday this month - in search of sunnier climes! (That said, snow’s forecast for my destination next week 😂) Please see the last page for details of who to contact if needed.
