I love fireworks. I know - they're noisy, disruptive, expensive and your pet is terrified... but I love them. I've even got tickets to go to a Firework display this year, so exciting! It's the sparkle, the colours, the magic - the awe and wonder, basically. Awe and wonder? It's a quality that Ofsted like to see in schools, in lessons and collective worship... it inspires, and it enables creativity and curiosity. But also, it gives a sense of connection with something beyond the ordinary, something other than us and bigger than us. Like - God. Many of us sense God in the awe and wonder of creation, in rainbows and stargazing and in the beauty of mountains and waterfalls and sunsets. Tomorrow night I won't be remembering much about Guy Fawkes, but instead I'll be enjoying the sense of awe and wonder as the sky lights with colour and allowing it to mysteriously connect me to the one who is infinitely beyond me - God.
