What's it all about?
That's a question that exercised me considerably when I went off to university - people would use the Bible to prove things, and I hadn't decided if it was true! I wrestled with that and (as you will guess) decided there was enough evidence (rather a lot, in fact) that it was a reliable document rather than a book of myth and fairy story. As a medical student with a scientific mind, evidence and fact was important to me; having decided this book was what it purported to be, I had to work out if I believed in the God whose story it told. Thankfully we can take a step of belief without understanding every last bit, because, let's be honest, the Bible is a complex book, with all sorts of apparent contradictions.
But getting to grips with the big picture it paints is so worthwhile and I've come to love the beauty and treasures within - and there's still so much to discover! That's why I'm really looking forward to the Bible Course over Lent - and starting just before. We'll take an overview in our sermons on Sundays but will be looking at the course in small groups in the week. If you aren't in a home group, please do consider joining one just for the 8 week course; we'll be putting on an extra group too.
To help us work out when the best time is, if you'd like to join a group, please complete this VERY short questionnaire here: https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk... . Or contact Sarah [email protected]. And we'll ask around at the service on Sunday when Nick Grew is launching the course! Thank you.
