10th March 22 Pray for Ukraine

This evocative picture was painted on the wall of a Cardiff street. The terrible images on our TVs aren't far from us and we will all be considering responses such as practical and financial donations, demonstrating, writing to our MPs regarding the visa situation and attending vigils. It's hard to see the destruction and it can feel like our prayers make little difference.

We live in the tension of the now and not yet of the Kingdom of God: evil is present and can seem to have the upper hand in this world, but we know that God's Kingdom will come in completeness one day, and that we have glimpses of the Kingdom here and now - a taste of what is to come. As we pray 'your Kingdom come' we trust that we will see it happen, increasingly. So let's not get weary of asking God for his peace and presence - He is faithful.
A Ukrainian Christian, working with YWAM in Ukraine spoke of answers to prayer in the midst of the horror: 'There have been some stories that have encouraged us. We have heard of bombs dropping out of the sky and not exploding, stories of tanks running out of fuel that had fuel. Stories of Russian soldiers who have given themselves up as POWs because they refuse to take up arms against part of their own Slavic families. For the last three days there has been a storm raging on the Black Sea. It has been so ferocious that Russia’s naval ships have not been able to dock at port.'
