What to expect

Our 10am service is our busiest church family gathering. You can join us on line or in the building, as the service is live-streamed from the church building.

It lasts on average around an hour. It's an informal service with lots of the church family contributing. Usually there are some set prayers, a junior church feature, a talk and songs and hymns of worship.

Everyone is welcome to join us in the building or on line. Mask wearing is voluntary - we have masks for personal protection (FFP3) available for your use and we'll keep the building well ventilated. Come early to grab a seat by a window or door if that's helpful for you.

There are activities for 0-11 year olds during the service.

There'll be a chance to catch up over coffee after the service too.

Join in on our usual church Zoom link:

First Sunday of the month:

- is service for all ages in cafe style - sat around tales, with coffee and croissants to enjoy during the morning, and a service with activities to share together across the generations. Consequently there won't be junior church or coffee after the service - it'll be during it instead!

Last Sunday of the month:

- the children and young people join us at the end of the service as we celebrate communion with all the church family in together.

Baptisms & Christenings

Welcoming young and old into membership of the church family.

In baptism we welcome young and old to become members of the family of the Church, as part of a life-time’s journey of faith.

We love to baptise (christen) young children as well as older people, and we ask that, before this step of faith is made into membership of the Church, mature candidates, and the parents of children being baptised, meet with our Vicar, to discuss what it's all about, and to better understand the promises that will be made by, or on behalf of, those being baptised.

When children are baptised we look forward to the time when as a young person or adult they can re-make their promises for themselves at Confirmation.

All enquiries about Baptism should be made to the Parish Office. the vicar will then be in touch to arrange to meet up - often at your home.

Because in baptism, we're welcoming new members of our church family, we prefer to baptise in a 10am Sunday service. For families who choose baptism outside a main Sunday Service, we encourage them to return at the next Family Service (usually 1st Sunday), so that those who have been baptised can be formally welcomed into our Church family.

Weddings

We'll journey with you through the preparations for the big day!

St Francis’ is the Parish Church of Valley Park and many couples choose to get married in the informal surroundings of the Church with its beautiful garden, which is ideal for the special photographs which help to bring back vivid memories of the happy day.

We welcome couples to contact our vicar, via the Parish Office to arrange their wedding, the calling of Banns of Marriage, and to prepare for the big day. We love to see couples join us for worship and to get to know us better as they prepare for this big step in their lives.

While all marriages, whether conducted in Church or in another place, involve formal legalities, the whole purpose of marriage – the equal sharing of love, home, family, children – sits right at the heart of what the Christian faith is all about – a binding and loving commitment between two people just like the relationship between each one of us and God. A Christian marriage has the added benefits of the support and friendship of a wider church family, to help through the difficult times and to help celebrate the good times.

Funerals

Remembering and honouring those departed.

We welcome all from Valley Park and others who wish to hold a funeral for their departed loved ones at St Francis. We look to journey with you through this often painful time and remember your loved one in the best way possible - that's as unique as they are. Our vicar would also be happy to help you make arrangements for a funeral at a crematorium.

Please contact your Funeral Director who will liaise with our Parish Office and help you make the necessary arrangements.

I was made to feel so at home and welcome at St Francis from the moment I stepped through the door.
