Today’s the last day of a week of prayer for Christian Unity, which comes in Epiphany. As part of that, it was good to welcome folk from St Martin in the Woods to our service last Sunday. Christian Unity was a high priority for Jesus. In his last prayer before his death, he prayed, ’I ask...that they may all be one. As you, Father, are in me and I am in you, may they also be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me... (John 17: 21).’ In order to pray for unity it’s great to have some appreciation of the different ways Christians worship and it’s always good to take the opportunity to go and see! I always enjoy the cathedral with its sense of awe and mystery - and I love to be back at St Francis with a feeling of family and fun. Where would you like to visit? Do take the opportunities that arise, any time! Here’s a prayer - a collect- for unity, that you might like to pray, along with many others throughout the world:
‘Heavenly Father, you have called us in the Body of your Son Jesus Christ to continue his work of reconciliation and reveal you to the world. Forgive us the sins which tear us apart; give us the courage to overcome our fears and to seek that unity which is your gift and your will; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirt, one God, now and for ever. Amen.’
